要彻底了解一款烟草调配，和彻底了解一个人一样，需要时间。具体说来，第一斗烟，往往只留下模糊的感性形象，不足为信。起码需要 3、4 斗甚至更多。另外，是否始终用同一把烟斗品尝，也有讲究，因为不同的烟草会在烟斗留下不同的气味痕迹。随着不断的体味，慢慢地开始捕捉到烟草的细致微妙之处，而微妙性是区分烟草调配是否优秀的重要标准之一。
